Engineering partnerships and successes 2021
This past year was busy with successful deliveries of several design projects, including substations and switching stations at various locations. We are proud of our contributions to these vital infrastructure enhancements.
Beyond substations, our team was heavily involved in numerous power line projects, providing expertise in foundation type definitions and foundation design. A significant portion of this work focused on transmission grid connections, supporting the reliable delivery of power across the network. We also conducted third-party inspections for several power line structures.
Significant partnerships and projects
We signed a significant framework agreement with Fingrid for expert services for 2021-2024. The agreement covers structural design of 110–400 kV transmission grid foundations and towers, design of substation buildings' base, architectural, structural, and HVAC systems, and expert services for dismantling substations and power lines. This partnership underscores our expertise and commitment to high-voltage infrastructure.
We are working on several substation projects in collaboration with Enersense, including the relocation of a reactor from Fingrid's Nuojua substation, where we are responsible for the structural design. Another key project is the Kärppiö 400/110 kV substation, where our design work has progressed well over the past year. We have visited the site multiple times to follow up on construction progress, ensuring smooth execution. This significant project plays an important role in strengthening grid capacity.
Other engineering work
We were commissioned to design the foundation for Fingrid's "Viäntö" landscape tower in Kuopio. This artistic landmark, designed by Parviainen Arkkitehdit Oy, presented a unique design challenge, requiring close collaboration with Sweco, who performed the strength calculations and fabrication design for the tower structure.
The structural design team visited the building sites on several occasions, and also spent a day on riverboats.
